On July 18-19, 2023, the China/Germany workshop on Advanced Cooling Technology and Gas Turbine Performance was successfully held at the Conference Center IBZ of the University of Stuttgart in Germany. The workshop was jointly organized by Professor Yu Rao from the Institute of Turbomachinery at School of Mechanical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Professor Bernhard Weigand from the University of Stuttgart in Germany. The workshop was funded by the Sino-German Science Center through the "Sino-German Cooperation Research Group on Advanced Cooling Technology and Gas Turbine Performance" (Funding No. GZ 1577). This was also the third time that Prof. Yu Rao has jointly organized the China/Germany workshop on Gas Turbine Engines with the University of Stuttgart.
About 30 experts and scholars attended the workshop, and they are from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics of CAS, and from University of Stuttgart, Technical University of Darmstadt, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Helmut Schmidt University in Germany, University of California – Davis in USA, University of Ferrara in Italy.
Totally 22 academic reports were presented in the workshop, which covered aero engine/gas turbine performance modeling and prediction, turbine blade cooling and heat transfer technology, compressor/turbine aerodynamic technology, combustion chamber flow and instability, advanced experimental measurements and numerical simulation methods, etc. The participating scholars shared the latest research and progress in their respective fields, and had intensive discussions regarding the workshop topics.
The holding of this workshop provided a platform for academic exchange and intellectual collision for Chinese and German scholars in the field of aero engine/gas turbine, which is conducive to deeper scientific research cooperation and innovative talent cultivation between the two sides in the future, and promotes the development of the industry.
